Man City team news: Ederson ruled out of Liverpool clash with injury, Pep Guardiola confirms ‘incredible’ Cla

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has confirmed that goalkeeper Ederson will miss Sunday’s top-of-the-table clash with Liverpool.

The Brazil keeper suffered a muscular problem in Wednesday night’s Champions League encounter against Atalanta, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Substitute goalkeeper Claudio Bravo was then given his marching orders in the second half, with City forced to field defender Kyle Walker between the sticks for the closing stages.

And speaking ahead of this weekend’s showdown, Guardiola confirmed Bravo will start in goal at Anfield.

The 36-year-old last started a league game for the club in May 2018, but has the full backing of his manager.

“Ederson is not able to play. I don’t know how long he will be out for, but on Sunday he cannot play,” the Spaniard revealed.

“Claudio Bravo can do it too. He is an exceptional keeper who has won a lot of international games with Chile. I have no doubts.”

In defence of Bravo, he added: “Why shouldn’t I be confident in my players? I would not like to be a player if my manager doubts me.

“I see him every day in training sessions, how good a player he is. We’re not going to lose because of Claudio.

“He has had a long career at the top, won the Copa America. Respect that guy, he is an incredible, top, top keeper.”

City head into the game six points behind their title rivals, and Guardiola has admitted it will be ‘very difficult’ for his team to retain the title this season.

“I don’t know, it won’t happen if we win the game,” he stated.

“In November it is not the end. We have a lot of games still to play.

“We will fight until the end as long as we have games to play.
