Chelsea team news: Mason Mount named in Frank Lampard’s squad for Crystal Palace clash, Ross Barkley still s

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has confirmed Mason Mount will be in his squad for Saturday’s clash with Crystal Palace, but the Blues will be without Ross Barkley once again.

Mount, 20, limped out of Tuesday’s thrilling 4-4 Champions League draw with Ajax owing to an ankle problem, with Barkley suffering from a similar complaint that has kept him out since October 19.

Nonetheless, the midfield pair were both named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Montenegro and Kosovo.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s early kick-off with Palace at Stamford Bridge, Lampard said: “Ross has got an ongoing issue so he’s not in the squad tomorrow.

“It’s a conversation that I will have with Gareth or Steve [Holland] with Ross to see how it pans out for him over the next 10 days.

“With Mason, he’s in the squad. We’re giving him another 24 hours and we’ll make a call on that one in the morning.”

Meanwhile, Lampard revealed that he hopes to have Germany defender Antonio Rudiger, who has made just a solitary appearance this season, back fit within the next three weeks.

“He had an operation and he’s going to be out around three weeks, hopefully,” added the boss.

“And we’ll see how the match fitness comes in then because it’s a long time Toni has been out now but I think it was nice to get something definitive about it.

“We’ve been trying to find a solution, Toni’s been having some issues.

“It’s not easy for a player in that position, so hopefully we are at that case now and in three weeks we’re in a lot better place.”

Lampard’s impressive start to life in the managerial hotseat at his beloved Blues was rewarded on Friday, with the 41-year-old named Premier League manager of the month after recording three successive wins in October.

“I appreciate it. It’s a really nice award to win as a manager, particularly against very good competition,” he said of receiving the accolade.

“I respect all the other managers in the Premier League because I know what job they do now that I am here.

“It is a good time to thank people at this club. They help me daily.

“I take the picture but there are people behind the scenes, particularly my close staff who put in the hours that we do, and the players because they go out and perform. So thanks to them.”
